Peri's Winkle Blues A video from Steve Klink's CD: Searching the Blue: |
|
This song takes me back to some of the great Bugaloos of Les McCann. There's a German announcer introducing the trio here (and yes, the song was first called: "Periwinkle Blue"). We were very fortunate to be able to work with the WDR in Cologne on a couple of these shows for WestArt, a very good cultural program. You may notice that the tempo here is much slower than that on the Searching the Blue CD. This video performance was made a year or so earlier than the studio recording. When I write a new song it is always interesting to see what kinds of recordings are eventually made of that song. Both versions of "Peri's Winkle Blues" (the studio and video versions) are really strong performances of the song. The "skips" you hear about halfway through are due to a bad digitization in the copying process, they are not cuts! As I said in the notes to the .mp3, Marcus Rieck (drums) does a great job with this groove. Drummers, check out Marcus' groovy understated Bugaloo beat! Million dollar question: Who is Peri? Performing for you on this video:
