Mayen Song A video from Steve Klink's CD: Searching the Blue: |
|
This song was premiered when the trio played a concert at the castle city of Mayen, Marcus Rieck's home town. The studio .mp3 version is a bit softer and slower, with brushes, whereas this video shows the way we do it live, with Marcus (drums) playing sticks. The sticks give the intro kind of a military feel which is not intentional. I was thinking more of Art Blakey's "Blues March". This song really takes me back to the Midwest of America. You can hear singer/songwriters there playing mostly folk songs with maybe a few bluesy numbers thrown in. Of course you can't compare the blues scene in Iowa to that of Chicago. But growing up in Iowa I was exposed to different blues performers, and whenever I was in Chicago I would check out Sunnyland Slim. So this song is the "token" down-home blues song that you would hear in a singer/songwriter's performance. The blowing over one chord is balanced by the different parts of the songs with a few twists and turns thrown in. Performing for you on this video:
